Why Would I Want A
Digital Camera? Digital Cameras are an amazing tool today. There many models to choose from, all with different features and ease of use. To measure the quality of a picture, you will often hear the term... MEGA-PIXEL. Most camera's come with a small amount of memory (usually 8mb) and this memory is removable, allowing you to easily add more memory and take more pictures. One Mega-pixel is decent....and good for the average user, but will not be equal to your 35mm camera. Two Mega-Pixel would be more equal, but is about 300-600 dollars more.
Here is a simple scenario of the use of a 2 mega-pixel camera: Stan normally uses a large 35mm camera, and loves taking pictures of his family. He takes on the average 10 rolls a month (that's 360 pictures) and gets double prints done. Which means he spends an average of at least 50-75 dollars a month, or 500-750 dollars a year. About 2/5th he throws away. If anyone wants copies, either he pays for them, or he gives them the negative and they pay for them, a task most of his family doesn't want to do. After looking around, Stan decides to buy an Olympus C2020 2.1 Mega Pixel camera (with 3 times zoom) and starts using it to take pictures. It comes with a card that holds about 12 high quality pictures - well, he needs more than that, so he heads out and buy's (2) 32MB Cards (extra memory) each card takes at least 64 pictures - (his total is now equal to 5 rolls of film). However, because its a digital camera....he can take pictures until all the memory is filled up, then plug it into his computer, and send it to his computer to hold, emptying the memory and take more. Because of this, he takes twice the amount of pictures he normally takes, and instead of paying to have them developed, he only prints the ones he actually wants, and saves the rest to a blank CD (with a CD-Writer) and if anyone wants one...he just emails them, or sends them a CD with all the pictures (CD's are about a dollar each). So now....the camera cost him $600 dollars, the memory together was $70, so he spent $800 dollars. But he's taking well over a $1,000 worth of pictures if he had them developed. That means he SAVED money, and EVERYONE in his family gets to enjoy the pictures! On the business side...think if you could take pictures of all your products and instantly, either print them out, or send them to your clients...Catalogs, Real Estate, Web Pages, all done in minutes, without waiting for film to be developed and wasting your time! |
